You will notice that I did not attach the pump directly to the muffler. I did not have enough room and I was uncomfortable with the pump hanging out freely supported only by the fitting. So I mounted the pump as seen in the photograph and used some brass fittings and an elbow to run some heater hose from the lower hole to the pump, making certain that everything had a downward slope.
