Ok, so I'm annoyed at facebook. It took forever to find the thread again. I really have to implement the tagging system here to make these things easier to find.

So I've been trying to plan out my trip a bit and figured I'd create a thread to keep everything that maybe i'll be able to find more easily.

Mammoth Caves in KY. Taos NM, Grand Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, beaches, San Francisco, rte 101 generally, Crater Lake, Olympia, and don't forget the Snake River. The Tetons, esp. if you know French. If you travel I-80, do it mostly at night, we did, like an ugly lover it doesn't matter much in the dark.

Valley of the Moon National Park in Wyoming. Check out the ice caves. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and watch out for bad weather in the open - scaries storm of my life.
Also, for sheer beauty of the ride, detour up through or back down through northern Idaho.
Did my trip with a truck and my dog on the way to AK. My goal is to retrace this route someday, probably this time with my kids in tow.

My cross-country experience involved the tacky (world's largest ball of twine, Corn Palace), sites of immense beauty (Grand Canyon, Badlands, Yellowstone). Some of which I'd like to visit again. In addition to Roadside America's site, there's also the Historic Trust list of most endangered landmarks
and unesco world heritage sites...

At rest stops in Nebraska to see awesome sculptures.

The George Baker kinetic sculpture outside of Kearney is worth the trip to Nebraska all by itself. Bonus points if you are there are the right time of year to see thousands of migrating sandhill cranes. ... See More

And for a cheesy ode to the road trip, stop here:

Surprisingly, Nebraska was my favorite state to drive through when I did the cross-country thing. But these tips only work if you are into the whole kinetic-sculpture-cranes-and-diorama thing. FUN!!!!

Looks like Dancing Rabbit is about equidistant from I-70, I-80 and I-35:

You'll need to zoom out a bit to see what I mean. They are looking forward to seeing you out there...

Here's another one - Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park in Montana. You could hit it after Yellowstone. I've heard a couple of personal accounts praising it. A few days ago a thread was started on the Monster forum about it:
