Good save. So it's all worth it? At least now you've got a somewhat better setup than before. And some extra notes, to boot. (pun alert)

RAID is definitely a "double-edged sword". You've just got to make sure that it represents more security than liability. The last time that I messed around with a setup like yours I was more interested in data integrity than uptime and decided that it'd be better to have a single boot drive for the main system and then mirror the data.
