'When I was a kid' stories from our grand parents were "I had to walk 5 miles in the snow up hill both ways to get to school". Our stories are "I had to walk ten feet the change the channel on the TV."

If you wanted to watch something on TV you had to watch it when it was on or you missed it.

If you called someone on the phone and they weren't home the phone just rang and rang, then you had to call back later.
